    Description

TELESCOPE - ASTRONOMICAL ROYAL ASTRO OPTICAL (?) - EXCELLENT w/ HEAVY TRIPOD
This telescope was bought by my father as an impulse purchase in the 1960s or 1970s from an optical store in New York City named “ATCO”.
He used it a few times and then stored it away.
He is long deceased and it has been in dry storage in my house for decades.
Although the box and instruction manual do not show a brand name or manufacturer, an internet search indicates that this telescope may have been made by “Royal Astro Optical Ind. Ltd” in Japan.
The instruction manual was printed for several different models, but is hand-marked specifically for model numbers “1253” and “OKT-118” (see the scan of the page in the manual listing the various models).
The manual states that the lens aperture is 78 mm and the focal length is 910 mm.
The box has a logo which might be “CK” (?) – see the photo of the box.  On the telescope are the following markings: "ATCO"  "Art No 1253"   "Astronomical Telescope"  "D=60"  "F=910"
I searched on the internet for “Japanese astronomical telescope 1253” and found several photos of this telescope, along with questions and comments.
One person wrote: “This is one of the finest classic telescopes I know.”
I know nothing about telescopes, but I expect that many people looking at this eBay listing will know much more about this telescope than I know.
Please look carefully at all of the photos and scans of the manual.
The heavy-duty wooden and metal tripod is assembled – therefore some of the spaces in the box are now empty.
Some of the items in the box:
    Eyepieces: HM 6mm, HM 12.5mm, & HM 20mm
The manual states that “HM” denoted “Huyghenian Mittenzwey”
    “Sun” and “Moon” glasses
    “X9” tube
    Sun projection screen
    Finder telescope
    Adjustment cables
(Many other items, some identified in the manual page shown in this listing.)
Because this telescope weighs more than 10 pounds, and the tripod weighs more than 20 pounds and is very bulky, the buyer will either pick up from an agreed-upon meeting place on Long Island NY (where I live), or will arrange the packing and shipping.
I am not a dealer, but simply an individual trying to dispose of decades of accumulations and stored items in my home.
Please look at my many other varied items currently listed for sale on eBay.
Please contact me with any questions regarding this item or shipment/delivery.  Thank you.
