Magnificent Wm Rogers #420 Silverplate Cigarette Hinged Box Wood Lined. Measures 6 3/8" long, 3 3/8" wide and 1 7/8" high closed. Interior has 2 compartments. Made for cigarettes but could be used for myriad purposes. Bottom is hallmarked Wm Rogers 420. Good complete condition with no damage and strong hinge. It closes quite tightly. Could use a food polish as it has an aged patina and a few spots of pitting - see my 8 detailed photos.
In 1865, William [Rogers]... went to Hartford and formed William Rogers Manufacturing Company and taking into the business William Rogers, Jr. The trademarks they used were "Wm. Rogers & Son", "Wm. Rogers Mfg. Co.", "1865 Wm. Rogers Mfg. Co." and (anchor symbol) Rogers (anchor symbol)". Other members of the firm included Thomas Birch, William J. Pierce and William H. Watrous. [After 1898, Wm. Rogers Mfg. Co. became part of the International Silver Company.]
