    Description

This Victorian PICKLE CASTOR is a special piece (hard for me to let this one go...). The art glass Jar or insert is a beautiful sky Blue color with an inverted thumbprint pattern and a bulging 1" wide belt-like band around its middle. It is decorated with hand painted enamel branches of white Lily of the Valley flowers, shaded green leaves, and random gold stars scattered about. The lid is a good fit for the jar - not sure if it's a match to the frame but looks great - it does have the same owner's engraved mark - X493 - as the frame. The Frame stands 12.25" tall on 4 loop feet. The round base has a .5" deep flat border with a rolled rim followed with a recessed well, then a raised ribbed ring just below the platform for the jar. The hoop handle has floral & scroll decorations on either side, a jar ring just above, a hook for tongs on one side and a decorative header. Marked: Meriden Silver Plate Co. (Quadruple Plate) - 0611. circa 1890's
