The 1898 1¢ green Maple Leaf postal stationery card with advertising for Roy & McClure, showing a bale of their dried Canadian sea moss, and noting several available varieties. Now associated primarily with PEI, sea moss (Irish moss) is valued for is carrageenan content used in many food products – but at the time used in many other ways, including calico cloth printing, beer brewing, and paper marbling.  Used from Ilse Verte, P.Q. where the company was located (Jan. 4 cancel, year indistinct).  Good condition.  Webb P17.
