Description
This is a lovely ornate pickle castor. It was made by Warner Silver Mfg. Co. in Chicago some timebetween 1894 - 1915.
The plating is quite tarnished, and I haven’t attempted to clean or polish it. It stands about 11” high and the base measures 4 ¼” across. It includes its whimsical tongs with little animal-type claws on the ends. The design on the glass jar is stunning. I think some people use pickle castors today as candy dishes, but back in its time, it was a real sign of affluence as it meant you had household help to do pickling for you.
